closed and open systems for new 220 gallon

Hi, I'm going to be setting up a 220 gallon system (my first) and my LFS guy suggested I have a closed loop system with a dedicated pump for just water movement and a second sump system with 2 overflows for my filtration with another pump. (Eventually I want to do SPS corals). In all that would be 8 "holes" and 2 pumps. Is this overkill? What do people think?

Thanks

If you are going SPS then no that is not overkill, depending on the hole size of the closed loop you may need a third pump and a third set of holes, or a pump or two in the tank.

Put it this way.

I had a Sequence Barracuda pump (4200gph) for my closed loop on a 90g SPS tank and I had dead spots. lol

nope. Sounds like you have a good LFS. That's the rarest find in the hobby.

Go with a mag 9.5 hidden in your rockwork. That kicks butt and there is no need for more powerheads.
