GSP experts please :(
I purchased a GSP frag rock about the size of a softball 3 weeks ago. Just this past week and a half it has decided not to open and show its wavy green hairs.
All my water perms are great and I have it on an excellent flow, medium/high. I have moved it to multiple places in the tank and let it sit there for one week each time. Now it is back in its original spot it where it had looked so lovely at but still just sitting there a purple dotted rock. What am I doing wrong, will it ever open again. 150 HQI metal halide, 2 21" PC combo strips actininc and day tank at 79 *F

Even with the highest spot in my tank and taking the full brunt of 80x turnover, they just thrive. Especially light, the more light the better. |

It is best to leave the coral where you want it, and let it adjust to your tank's parameters in that exact position. As you know, moving it around to get different flow and lighting, will cause it stress and make it recede and not come out, so I say, let it be, and if your tank is stable enough, it will come out on its own, just have patience.

ANyways, Just leave them be, My colony had a few times when it would not open for a week at a time, especially when I changed conditions= such as increasing flow.

what are you parameters like?
Just as the other post said "leave it where you want it" GSP is very hardy and in my experience flow and light dont seem to bother it either way. Check you parameters and be paitent it will open again.

just leave it. sometimes mine closes up for a wile then comes back out. i noticed they tend to open more once you get the temp swings down and keep it around 78-79

Mine took a couple days to open up after I put it in my tank, but now sometimes I wish they'd just close up for good. Its going to be taking over my tank soon...

The only thing I've seen bother GSP's is algae.
Even a thin layer on them will prevent them from opening. I've had to take a soft tooth brush and brush them off If I put them in a tank that was too new with algae. If it is algae they will never open and start to die off. |

I walked into my bedroom and BAMM it was opening up, I think it just needed to relax in its now permanent spot for a bit.
