Help Me Pick A Shrimp
Currently i have a 55g with...
1 Arrow Crab 1 Emerald Crab 1 Peppermint Shrimp Assorted Fish Assorted Polyps/Mushroom's/Zoo's I'd like a shrimp that is very active during the day! What Shrimp would be applicable with my set up? I've thought about a Blood shrimp but I'm not sure, I wanted to get your guys opinion first. Thanks! |

My girlfriend has had 2 blood shrimp and they both hid most of the day. It was pretty rare to see him.
I think a skunk shrimp would be your best bet. |

I love the fire shrimp (blood shrimp) and have 2 of them. Don't see a whole lot of them-only a feeding time. I also have a skunk shrimp-much bolder. If you put your hand in the tank it will jump on it and try to 'clean' you. If you're looking for a more social shrimp, the skunk is the one to get.

Cleaner shrimp... colorful, visible, clean parasites off fish. Blood shrimp are a little more fragile than others.

What kind of arrow crab do you have? Most arrow crabs are questionable with other crustaceans (and small fish).
That being said, if you want something out during the day I would agree with Valistener on the cleaner (skunk) shrimp. Get 2. They stick together most of the time (which I really like), and will often breed creating food for others. |

Go with the cleaner shrimp. I have 2 cleaners which are out and about all the time and I have a peppermint shrimp that I never see. So don't go with one of those if you want to see your shrimp

Pistol shrimp are wonderful, though you'd need to get a goby as well (or the shrimp will hide and you'll almost never see it) - the shrimp are essentially blind, and pair with some species of goby in a symbiotic relationship that's amazing to watch. The goby will play 'lookout', while the shrimp digs and attends to their burrow. My pair (tiger pistol and orange-spotted shrimp goby) are just adorable, wouldn't give them up for the world
Skunk cleaners are peaceful, pretty, and lots of fun. A pair is even more enjoyable than a single shrimp (and any two will form a m/fm pair). Do watch that arrow crab though, I'm not sure how well behaved they are long-term with other crabs/shrimp.

Awesome guys thanks a bunch!
I don't know the exact kind of Arrow Crab I have but it's slightly white, looks like a giant daddy long leg spider, and is about the size of my palm. At first he was a bit of a bastard to the rest on my inhabitants, but with time, he has seemed to accept his new home. I've heard bad things about Arrow Crabs but mine is missing one claw so I think that has made him a bit less ambitious. I'm going to the LFS today to get two Skunk Shrimp as suggested! Maybe I'll post some pics of the Arrow Crab (if i can figure it out) |

I have 2 Peppermints, 2 Skunks, 2 Harlequins, and a Tiger Pistol shrimp. The only shrimp that are out and about during the day are my Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. In the past Ive owned sexy shrimp and fire shrimp. They both would hide too. Id go with a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp.
