GARF was (is?) an organization of aquarium hobbyists. GARF grunge was (is?) cultured live sand from tanks devoted to the process of making really high quality live sand. It would come will all sorts of critters in it... worms, brittlestars, and a huge variety of micro-fauna.

I haven't seen it raved about in a while, so don't know if it's still available.

Got it free with some corals once. It's just gravel from a reef tank. It will help a little (maybe), but if you have a sand substrate it will just cover your sand with ugly gravel. Also I had a small aptaisa outbreak shortly after I used it... I would recomend that you find sand from an established tank, that you know is prestine and just you a scoop or so from that; it will at worst do the same thing.

Don't mean to dis GARF, I think they are a great organization and they are just trying to stay in buisness, but I've had better luck with their frags...
