yeah use the money and buy a Reefflo Model 250, you will thank me in the end...or buy the Reefflo Model 200 if you are going to stay at or below 400G total

Why would I think you ? what are the facts ? Have you owned both ?
I have read post after post and I see alot of these kind of statements. Please tell me why you think this.

Facts I have so far :

I seen these at the Pittsburgh show along with others and seen nothing built as well

Low power use.

Parts will be around for a long time.

If some guy owns a honda and says he hates harleys and has never owned one, I don't really want to here what he has to say do you ? but tell me you have had both now I want to hear what you have to say.

I'm starting to see a patern here on Reef Central. If you ask what is the best on something 6 people will say one thing and then on another post 6 more say some other brand. Does anyone really know ?

If people would post the facts like why , when, were and how they come up with there statements we just might all get on the same page.

Mattyice,
I'm really looking forward to find out why you like the reeflo so much..Please post.

i chose the reefflo for a few reasons over the BK200, yes i know that the build quality is second to none and that the pumps are extremely efficient but...i am looking at pure raw performance, most skimmers arent something that people place out in the open and say look at how cool my skimmer is, they are tucked away under a stand or in an equipment room so as for looks i could care less what the skimmer looks like because all im going to care about is how well it performs compared to others.

yes build quality is an important issue, although the build quality isnt the same between the Reefflo and the BK, i feel the build quality of the Reefflo is great and no issues with it at all

the price is another thing i plan to upgrade later on in the future to i would say an 800G system, well i dont want to have to pay 1800 for a skimmer now and then have to pay even more when i upgrade to a different one, and $1800 for a skimmer that only skims half as much as my $1200 reefflo i dont think its worth the price

Since i see the BK200 is good up to 400G i would say a more comparable skimmer is the Reefflo 200 which is half the cost of the BK and you still are getting more air passing through the system

my Reefflo 250 is rated closer to a BK400 which i am still less then half the cost...the efficiency of the skimmer will take years to get back the money of what you would of saved on the Reefflo 250 and yet still out skim the BK200

not only do i recommend the Reefflo over the BK but premium aquatics does as well...and they stock both so that would say something about them as well

my whole thing in this hobby is that people are so hung up on getting the best of the best from Europe and paying fortune for it when there is equipment and supplies made from other places that do just as well but everyone sees european tanks and thinks its the equipment they use...yes to some degree it is, but alot of it is the methods they use to get there

bottom line is that my ReefFlo 250 outperforms the BK200 in skimmate and air intake, it beats it in price, and if i want to go with an 800G system i have the ability to reuse my skimmer instead of having to drop over 2,000 again to get another one to keep up with it.

its all how you feel if you look at things like build quality and available parts (BTW I doubt that Sequence is going anywhere soon considering the build some of the best pumps in the industry) then go for the BK but i would much rather have a skimmer that performs well for my tank, that i can use as an upgrade, cost anywhere from $600-$2,000 less then the competition and be happy with it knowing i have a dependable well made pump that will work for a long time...then have something that looks good and is an expensive piece of equipment that came from europe and only the elite reef keepers have

Well said...I will have to take another look at these.
I would like to see your setup if you have any photo's.

I did take note of one thing you said and I feel the same way. I don't really care about how it looks or were it comes from just as long as it works well and I don't come home to a flood. I have been in FW for 20 plus years and it took a long time and money to find out what stuff is real and what stuff is just cheap junk or what I like to call "Hobby toys"

I know that I want to get it right the first time with this build and cost will not be a factor

Thanks again.

here is my temporary setup

that was just to cure the LR in the rubbermaid tub, when my tank is finally installed i will actually have it forced fed by a drain instead of a pump, this ensures i catch most of the uneaten food, fish crap, and other stuff instead of having a filter sock

also here is the skimmate of what i got after only 5 minutes within start up (this is no break in and just plumbing it and turning it on)

after break in and with the large bioload i will have i guarentee that my tank will be sparkling clear and will not have a speck of algae on it anywhere (precured rock and a large clean up crew along with vortechs for water movement will help...large amounts of phosphate media will help as well)

its gotta be a pain in the butt to get that collection cup off on that reeflo. i would go with something with a bayonet fitting like a BK or a deltec for ease of maintenance. both great skimmers with low wattage. if you clean the skimmers neck bi weekly you will see around a 20% increase in performance.

just my 2 cents.

Here is the BK400ext and the homemade Reeflo pump with custom skimmer body... What is the different between my BK and reeflo? Not a darn thing... I think the performance is the same just the quality and electrical usage is a bit different.

I rather spend $200 to replace the reeflo dart NW then $1400 for the red dragon....

BK400ext with red dragon 2500

You see pic of both skimmer... It is up to you to pick what you like...

This has been brought up quite a bit. It takes exactly 15 seconds to get the cup off, and 15 seconds to get it back on. I've timed it multiple times, and that is going at a normal pace. The holes are "key holed", which means you only have to unscrew the nylon screws about 1.5 turns, then the cup will twist and come right off. You do not have to remove the screws all the way. HTH!

jarhead,

Were did you get your pricing ($1400 for the red dragon)
I'm getting prices like 1869.00 for the complete skimmer and 919.00 for the pump and I haven't even started shopping yet.

Anyway who sells the Reeflo ? Just premium aquatics?
I also seen some were that an alum. motor housing could be ordered on the pump for about 130.00 dollers more. Has anyone seen or heard of this ?
