in tank asm or octopus skimmers

Has anyone used skimmers above in tank eliminatiing sumps and water level problems ON large tanks 100 and above skimmers could function without taking up much space could be hiidden by rock and I know there are links please direct me to them. I need to see Ideas if available

Not a good idea IMO. Not only will it look very unsightly but also how do you plan to clean the skimmer and pump when it's time to do so? Or do you plan to break down your rockwork very couple months? Would be better option to just get a sump. Setting up a sump isn't as difficult as most people think.

yes I have a sump but tired of trying to maintain water level and hey Tunzes go in tank and are alot more expensive and are not needle wheels so to each his own

If you're having a hard time controlling the water lelel then maybe you should look into redesigning your sump instead.

A couple options I would suggest:

1. Add a baffle so that you're enlosing the space where the skimmer is located, the water level will always be at the level of this baffle then.

2. Plumb the skimmer directly to the overflow.


Yes Tunze skimmers do go intank but they are a whole lot smaller than both ASM and Octopus insump skimmers.

I still would like to explore the possibility of an octo or other skimmmer and after 30 yrs as a marine aquarist am always looking for different ideas, by the way the sump is fine its an ae tech sump thicker acrylic than most, any other suggestions?
