i tried to feed him table shrimp again but all hes doing is sitting there, wont grab anything. there is some black stuff mixed with what look like the purple tips of his tentacles. last night he was floating around in the current like a fish. i dunno whats going on with him.

also, some of his tentacles look like that have wrinkles and some are completely flat. worrying me pretty bad

his mouth is gaping open too

He looks small. You need to wait untill hes inflated to feed him. Get raw cocktail shrimp and break in 2 or 3 pieces then useing your fingers float the pieces over his tenticles and he will grab. If he doesnt reopen or deflates often then he is not happy.

They will live under pc lighting but may never stop moving. They will keep moving untill desired spot found. Also correct readings.

Whats the water change scedule and the water source?
Do you know the water readings?

Regular bubble tip anemones are fine under pc lighting. I have had one under 2 96W bulbs for a few years now. He's been happy and hosting clowns the whole time. They will move themselves near the top and find their happy place.

Your anemone doesn't look good. A gaping mouth is a bad sign. If he only expelled waste, then he will probably be fine. If the gaping mouth continues or if he expells the zoanthelle, you better get him out.

How old is your tank and what are your water parameters? You need to have a mature and stable tank to have an anemone. Six months is a good minimal waiting period.

im gonna test the water in a few minutes, ill post the reading as soon as i get them.

also, all the water comes from a RO/DI unit. Water changes are 15gallons once a week.

oh, and i know i added the bta too soon but the tank is 3months old. i found out i should have added him at least 6-8months old after i purchased him.

15 gallons a week is a little to much. If any readings are high then a 25% change followed by weekly 10% changes and whene under control then 10% weekly or 20% bi-weekly.

Do you mix and circulate the new batch of water before adding to the display tank and if you do how long ?

And is this your RO/DI unit ?

i have a aquaclear 70 PH i use to circulate the water and a heater and digital thermometer to get the water temp to match the tanks before adding the new water.

ive been battling nitrates thats why ive been doing 15gallons instead of 10 like i should be. i was hoping this would help combat the nitrates.

If the new batch of water isnt sirculated long enough it is caustic to the stock and can damage fish gills along with killing stock including coral.

But of course high nitrates can also kill coral.

As for the nitrates a denitrifying filter or a refugium would control this.

Yup hes reinflated or drawing in water to appear bigger. If he hasnt ate then i would thaw a shrimp break in pieces and see if hes hungry. Raw shrimp.

He doesnt appear to be attatched. If he isnt then try and move him to a lower flow area on or nesxt to a rock or frag and he may climb on. This is dangerous as he can get trapped in the pumps or powerheads.

Not sure. Package should say if uncooked or not.Looks raw. ! is enough and remember you can help control growth by how much he eats. They can get real large and even split into 2 if he is happy and well feed. But he can bother and kill other coral he touches.

Also im not much on recomending stock but a pair of tomato clowns would take right to that.

ive got a pair of false percs im trying to get to host him. but nothing has happened yet. im trying the picture approach. with the picture facing the inside of the tank with a clown hosting a bta. supposed to work but its been on for about a day now and nothings happened. im thinking the health of the bta is affecting the hosting process.

heres the parameters btw

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20
Ph - 8.2

im still having the high nitrate problem, probably gonna do a water change tomorrow.

I hear this all the time in here percs not hosting, i think from to many tank bred fish. Replace with tomato clowns and you will be very pleased , imo great personality and not everyone and there sister has one. These guys host almost all my coral. Whene BTA excaust waste the cling to nearest coral.

I had to remove a large rock that the BTA was on and i didnt notice after i freaked cause my female tomato was gone is she was so afrais of loseing this guy she stayed in while rocked transfered from tank to container without me knowing. Thats love.

<---- you can see him there
