Gobie's can become a nuciance and may actually disturbe your sand bed "too much"... if you are concerned with stirring your sand bed, perhap's consider some (true) Nassarius snail's... : ) (maybe 25-30 or so for your tank size)

thats a good choice...snails...in a 72 gallon bow front you dont need that many 20 is a good number...you dont want to stir the sand too much

hermits can help with this process as well

the gobies you have dont really do anything except get big and build a network of tunnels under your rock

You need snails and hermits, but a clean sandbed is death to a marine tank. A dirty one is, too. You have to keep it medium-dirty, so it will support life, feed copepods, etc. In a 75g, you need about 10 cerith snails, couple of turbos or astraeas, about 10-15 micro-hermits [that don't grow bigger than a cerith shell], and 3-5 nassarius [under-sand] snails. Your engineer gobies will move so much sand on their own I really wouldn't recommend a sandsifter, as it would probably starve to death in a short while. The exception would be a yellow watchman goby, which will sift about 5" at a time, move about a little, and will gladly eat pellet food or anything else available.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny, royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.

** not to those against my great engineer gobies. when you set your tank up, you always add LR then sand so that the rock is sitting on the bottom of the tank, that way the cant go under your rocks.

nassarius snails are like zombies, they only come up when you feed the tank, creepy. but do a great job of stirring up sand. i heard that wrasses sleep in the sand? is that true anyone? that you kinda help

My Engineer Goby rearranges my sand all the time. He stirs up detrius and a lot of it makes its way into my overflow and into a filter sock.
