A quick cure for bryopsis

I had a major outbreak of bryopsis from a couple frag rocks I put in my tank. The stuff spread like wildfire onto other frag rocks on my sandbed. I think it was some mutant strain of this vile weed.

After several attempts at manual removal, I ordered some Kent Tech M to try the elevated magnesium method I've read about. I started dosing a couple days ago. Before dosing I pulled out the infected rocks and manually removed as much bryosis as I could. Frustrated with it, I took the Kent Magnesium and squirted it directly on a couple rocks as I dosed it into my tank.

This morning the two rocks are close to completely clean. The only remaining sign of bryopsis are some gray fuzzy remnants. The couple mushroom corals on the rocks look fine, although I was careful not to hit them. It looks like one of my Turbo snails may have helped clean off the rocks. Although they wouldn't touch the bryopsis when it was growing healthy. The bryopsis on my other rocks still looks healthy as I haven't elevated the magnesium in my tank high enough yet.

So if you have a bryosis problem and can remove the rock from your tank, I suggest trying this. Instant gratification.

Good luck and happy reefing!

Just a quick update. The bryopsis on my other rocks is starting to fade a bit now that I've reached my target Magnesium level. Hopefully the trend will continue.

The only negative I can see from my application of Kent M directly to the two test rocks is it seems to have bleached the coraline algae a bit. Otherwise, the rocks are now completely bryopsis free.

Do you have a link to the original post and dosing guidelines? Curious about this...
