Baffled About Baffles
does anyone have a good idea for making sump baffles to capture detritus and install it in a rubbermaid sump???? i mean the tubs bow a tiny bit and they are not perfectly square anyways, they all have rounded edges, so if anyone knows of a design or a link to another thread about this i would really appreciate it!!!

in my sump, which is glass instead of installing baffles i have used sponges. what i did was take three large reef safe sponges secured one to the bottom and stacked the other two on top it has worked very well for me to stop microbubbles and to work as a filter sock of sorts.

Some people use a smaller container(s) sitting into the larger container to create zones.

Assuming your sump to be one of the 70 or 100 gallon rubbermaids. That large of a sump usually dissapates the bubbles before they become a problem in your main tank.
I even have an airstone running in mine. |

People also use filter socks directly under the downflow. Or you can just stuff some ordinary blue/white filter medium into the first chamber and change it out after 24 hours.
Don't leave filters in much longer than that without cleaning or you could see nitrates build up, to the detriment of any corals you want to keep.
