Rock work
Couple days ago I moved my rock work around and made sorta like 2 islands. I had about 50 lbs of rock left over so what I did with it was put it in the sump wer the water enters the sump from main tank, also that were the skimmer is. Usually my Phosphates are 0 and my nitrates never go above 5. The last 2 days I tested the water. Yesterday I got a phos reading of .25 and a nitrate reading of 20. Day a phos rating of .25 and a nitrate reading of between 20-50. I am currently making 35 gallons of RO/DI water for a water change tonight. My question is when I put the 50 lbs or so of rock in the sump is it dieing off which is causing the spikes. The only light I had was a 20K Florescent which is over th refug right next to the rock. So this morning I put the 20K over the rock and put a plant bulb over my cheto.

Probably caused by detritus and crap getting kicked up when you did the rearranging. It'll probably return to normal after things settle down a bit. Doing a good water change and siphoning of any obvious debris might be a good idea too.
