You need to step back and examine your plumbing -- it is simple enough to setup your tank so it will not flood due to power outages.

Address this problem first without a UPS.

U Tube overflows dont lose siphon when power is off unless there is something wrong.

add a baffle to the outer side of the overflow before the drain so that when no more water is entering or exiting, both ends of the tube are still submerged.

The return could be siphoning back into the sump. Easiest way to fix that is to drill a small hole on the return outlet just below water level. As for a UPS to keep your tank running, it all depends on the pumps power usage. Getting a UPS to supply power for 8 hours isnt cheap, but keeping the pump running for a few hours longer is better then none. I think this UPS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16842102070 under small load from just a return pump would last about 3+ hours.

I realize this and that is the problem. So by drilling a hole on the tank side of the U-Tube this will cut off the siphon? Scubadoo i dont quite understand what you are talking about??????
