Lightbulb 2 hanging pendant MHs instead of strip fixture

Has anyone ever used a pair of these spaced equally above a 48" tank? It's a 150W HQI metal halide lamp. The housing is 9.5" diameter by 7" tall.

I would hang them 7" above the water.

I was considering a 5 light Aquitinics T5 strip fixture, but I could use 2 of these Outer Orbit pendants instead.

I wonder if anyone has ever done this. In all the pics of people's tanks, I've never seen this setup. I was wondering if there's a good reason why. . . Do people just tend to like light fixtures that mount directly above the tank, or sit on top of the tank better than one that hangs from the ceiling?

BTW, besides being 48" long, it's 12 1/2" wide and 21" high.
