turn a wet dry to a sump

how do i convert my wet dry to a sump?

it can be very easy depending on the actual container/tank size. You got any pics or know what model it is?

Usually it just involves taking out the sponge and bioballs if you use them. Then you add a series of baffles to create compartments for water to flow thru. If it's big enough people make a skimmer compartment, a refugium, and a return compartment.

Do you have a submersible skimmer or hang on or external. Do you have a return pump, or one in mind? Again, submersible or external?

I agree. Just remove the filter media and, Presto, you now have a sump.

i have a hang on skimmer dont know the name of the wet dry but its 4 a 90 gallon, if i remove the filter media all the dirt and stuff my filter picks up will go back in my tank.

I just started doing the same thing. remove balls SLOWLY about a HANDFULL a day till there gone. keep a sponge somewhere to catch debris from going back into tank

My wet/dry only holds four inches of water when running, and about twice that when the power is off.
If you start adding baffles and make deeper compartments, make SURE you leave enough room at the top for the extra tank water when the system is powered down!

so then why are the bio balls in a wet dry period, can i just let it run with no bioballs.and only my filter pad,remember ive necer had a problem with my tank and nitrates
