I.D. cynobacteria?

used to be a sponge (came with my LR) it was gray now its redish with strings hanging off.

Red slime algea. Trying to remove could cause it to spread. Direct flow will make it leave but takes a little time.
You got this on a piece of LR?

I think i have some of that same stuff in my tank. I noticed i was able to suck it our during a water change, i hope i did not make it spread.

well it was a dead sponge when i got it. i scraped it a lil and it was red underneath so i thought maybe it was decaying or something.

my flow rate is at the bottom there. should i buy a powerhead?

Flow cures the problem with red slime. If you need to get a power head to get flow going then thats what you have to do. What other flow do you have?

Yes sir cyanobacteria. When things like sponge die the bacteria will actually sit on the decaying body and feed as it dies. That is extremely good don't touch that spot until the cyanobacteria has gone away. Or risk the quality of water in your tank.
