Why does everybody hate bubbles?

I keep seeing anti-bubble references and I'm just curious as to why they're so bad.

Corals do not like the bubbles, some coral will die if exposed to air, there flesh will melt, and air can cause salt creep.

They're an eye-sore. A million little bubbles get in the way of viewing the livestock you work so hard to support! Plus, it also makes it difficult to focus the camera for that perfect shot.

most people think they need them to put o2 in the water .that is untrue skimmers do that and surface agitation is the key

Also, its not a natural look. Generally, in reefs, you don't get a proliferation of bubbles coming from a small source.

It is impossible to take decent photos of your critters with mini-bubbles in the water.

Tiny bubbles....
In my wine....

I dont know the rest.

I dont want em for salt creep, I clean the top to my tank once a week or so. But right now I have to use an airstone cause I cant put my lights over a bare tank & need something to help in gas exchange. Once the new lights are on though, its out.

The amount of oxygen diffusion due to an airstone is small compared to the amount which occurs at the water/air surface interface. You should use a powerhead to cause water movement at the surface. Unless your tank cover is 100% air tight, which is amost impossible, there will be plenty of oxygen in the air at the surface.
