Snails and green hair algae

Are there any snails that eat hair algae? I see a lot of information about snails that say they eat algae but no specific information on if they will take care of green hair algae? I am talking about LONG hair algae too. I can run a brush through this stuff.

Curious about which types might eat it: astrea, margarita, cerith, etc...?

Thanks for any help

No snails eat HA that I'm aware of.
The only critter that will touch it is a sea hare.
And if that dies in your tank.......Farewell and ado.

What brand of hair algae do you have? Some snails do eat Derbesia, Bryopsis however is a whole other ball game.

Cypraea annulus and maybe Cypraea moneta will eat some of it, maybe all of it. They are sold as "Money Cowries" or "Gold Ringer Cowries."

Cheers,

Don

IMO--go after the source of food for the algae--phosphates and nitrates---address that and the algae will die off.

ways of addressing phosphates/nitrates

only using r/o water
biweekly water changes
feeding less but more often
rinsing frozen foods before use with r/0 water
setting up a refugium with lots of chaeto algae

to name a few
