Remora pro skimmer starting to tick me off!

Wondering if someone can help me. I bought an Aqua C Remora pro with a mag 3 pump and ever since it's been going, about three months now, all it does is fill the collection cup with water. The cup is at its highest level. I emailed Aqua C and told them about the problem and they replied by telling me that there must be high nutriants in the water or something. The tank has been set up for three months now and all water parims are in check. Done a couple of water changes last week and the week before but the collection cup keeps filling with water. Any ideas?

Are you using a dechlorinator/dechloraminator such as Aquasafe by chance. Some additives make the skimmer go haywire. Others, such as Prime, do not cause that reaction. BTW, I have a Remora C Pro with a Mag 3 also. The only time it has ever done what you're describing was when I used Aquasafe.

No, I haven't put any chemicals in the tank. This has done this from the beginning.

These are not good skimmers. Well they are terrible to be honest.

I owned one as well. It was terrible. I would try and sell it and get a Octopus or Bermuda HOB skimmer if you don't have a sump

Have a sump, just not that much height clearance in the stand.
Are they really that bad? I had a regular remora on my last tank and the thing did a good job.

From what I read remoras are built inconsistant so some remoras will skim and some will not skim. Quality control sucks on these.

OK, so when I sell this thing what decent skimmers are out there for a decent price? I don't want to be on here again posting the same stuff ya know?

How big is your tank and the cleareance space in your sump. Its best to get a insump if you have a sump. I'm sure others will chime in on whats a good insump for your current situation. that will of course fit down there.

70g long 82"LX14.5HX13.5D, 20g sump. from bottom to top of the inside of the stand is 21.5"
What do you all think about Tunze skimmers? I know some of them are pretty small but powerful.

heard great things about the Tunze look into the octopus they are a great bang for the buck skimmer. would have to check height to be sure

I just did some for you. Your stand height is annoying

I couldn't find anything under 23" the Octopus.

You cant do a Recirculating skimmer?

Tell me about it lol. The stand it self is over 30"H but it's got a floor.

See it looks like it could handle a 24" skimmer from the outside haha.
I suppose I could put the skimmer next to the tank.

holy cow that is a huge tank i thought we were talking a 80 gallon or so you definetly need a much bigger skimmer and an insump or recirc. WHat size is that 180. Very small in height, the tank itself looks like the height is small is what i am saying

I wouid look at a DAS EX2

My first skimmer was a remora for six months and it was like dont have skimmer at all. I use to have the same model as your. I sold it and bought a DELTEC AP600, firts day skimms more than the remora did in 6 months. Very have with deltec

With a 21.5" height limit, here area couple:

Euro-Reef RS100 - 20" zero clearance cup removal
ATI BubbleMaster 160 - 20.1" minimal clearance cup removal

The Tunze skimmers are short, but require some height to remove the cup.

i used to have a remora and it worked great. From the looks of the skim bubbles being produced you skimmer is doing its job. You need a skimmer that handle your tank size.

The remora pro is suposed to skim tanks up to 125g, mine is only a 70g. I know, pretty weird tank size, I know lol.

I actually have had good luck with my Remora Pro. I have a Remora C with a mag 1200 and it is not very good at all. Maybe you could send that pic you posted to both the manufacturer and to the place you bought it. If you've only had it 3 months you should be able to return it for a different protein skimmer.

I had the Pro/mag5 and it worked ok. got a lot of tea color. It would overflow for a couple days for no reason then it would work normally. I built a fuge and installed a RS80 from euroreef and the skim was black and thick!!

I've had my Remora Pro for 4 years. It came with a Mag 3, it's also had a Mag 5 and Mag 7...it's just not that good of a skimmer, but 4 years ago it was one of the most recommended HOT skimmers available.

Here's another option for that tight of space. Get a Via Aqua SK series skimmer. They are short yet fat and work quite well.
