I got a PinPoint Ph meter for xmas...

I got the thing callibrated and hooked up this morning. The Ph started off around 8.15 at about 1:00 pm, which is about 2 hrs after the lights came on. It reached a high of 8.2 at around 3-4pm
now it has started to decline. Its currently at 8.06 at 7:00pm
I thought the Ph was suppose to rise until the evening? Is this normal?

Normal..............PH swings down at night due to a decrease in oxygen.

Shouldn't it rise until the lights go out, then start to drop afterwards?

A lot of factors go into PH, buffering and alkalinity. To start with, what are your Ca and Alk levels? What is your bio-load like?

I agree a lot of factors play a role. I don't worry about flactuation as long as it is within tolerance area. The ph meter is nevertheless the most usefull electronic gadget I ever bought - if you can keep your eyes off it for an hour or two...
