10k vs 20k for my tank?

I have a an Aquamedic Aquaspacelight

Specifications:

Dimensions: 48" x 11.25" x 3.25"
(2) 250w 5k,10k, or 20k HQI metal halide lamps (1) 150w 5k,10k,or 20k HQI metal halide lamp

In anyones opinion: would you go with 20K on the 250's or 10K or 5K?

This will be running on a 100G display with clams, sps, lps, softies....

5k? that pure yellow.

10k white most the time has yellow and 20k blue.

I like 20k

hi i personaly find best combination would be 2 250 to be 10k 150 to be 20k would give good colour and grouth in sps. I use a aquaspace light with 3 250 10k and 2 150 20k and get very good results

Hi Dave!

To Reef Central

Scoobaman,

I would stay away from the 5k for sure, and without some kind of actinic supplement I don't think you will be happy with 10k either. I am surprised they do not offer a 14-15k bulb considering how much the Aquamedic stuff goes for. Out of the choices you listed I would go with 20k, but I would check to see if they have something in the 14-15k range first.

I think they are great, but way overpriced which more accurately is my way of saying I could never afford either.

Yeah I would never be able to pay the full price. But this used one works great.

Scoobaman,
You say the fixture is used? Does it need nwe bulbs then? If so, then you can buy whichever bulbs you want.

if you want blue and lower K then try reeflux 12K. The color is as blue as 20K radium.

I'm going to buy new bulbs that's why I'm asking which is more preferred in 10 or 20K. I'll soon have a t-5 unit from another tank when it gets mh that I could use for actinic but I love the blue color.
