Lighting for 210
I am going to upgrade again. I currently have a 125 gallon with a 72" maristar fixture. Its 3X250 watt with 3 Phoenix 14K's. I am wanting to upgrade to a 210. I have a ER CS6-2, thinking of running dual skimmers, maybe a Octopus 200 along side of the ER. I have 2 koralia 4's a Koralia 3 a seio and a couple other misc powerheads, I will have a 55 gallon fuge, and a 30 gallon sump. I am pretty sure I am going with a closed loop for some added flow. I am wondering if this stuff will work, mainly lighting, and are there any downsides to running dual skimmers.
Thanks in advance. Ben |

Looking at your sig are you still going to run FOWLR?
I would try and stay away from dual skimmers and just get a bigger one for your size tank. How are you setting up the Fuge and sump ? Are they going to be under the tank in the stand? if so you need to figure out how all that stuff is going to fit under there. Jason

I know someone who runs a 3x250wattDE maristar over his 210... uses pheonix 14,000Ks even with supplimental UVL Super Actinic bulbs. Works very well.

Thanks for the reassurance on the lights. Just making sure. As for the 210 if will become a reef tank and the 125 FOWLR will be tore down. Dont want to maintain two tanks. The Sump will probably be on the floor and the Fuge will probably be higher than the display. Main tank will be an in-wall so everything will be behind closed doors. What are the disadvantages to running dual skimmers.

You'll be fine in the lighting dept. Dual skimmers? That sounds like dual cups to empty and clean twice a week; sounds a lot like having to change two diapers rather than one.

Actually, its rather common in the EU. Unless you have a skimmer that 'breaks in' quickly after cleaning, you can end up with a lull in skimming every time you clean your skimmer. So to prevent this, two smaller skimmers are used rather than one large one, and the cups are cleaned on different days.
