Need help with a way to block fish from getting into single pipe overflow please.

I added a fish and star to my 29 and last night both got sucked into the overflow and died. Can anyone tell me what you use or have seen used to block a overflow so nothing will get sucked into it?

They make a plastic screen material with large openings that is for placing on top of gutters. There are several types but this one comes in a roll. Cut a piece off and roll it up and stick in the top of the pipe or ty-wrap around the pipe. Doesnt restrict enough to raise the water level more than a mm or 2 and will keep fish and snails out. Home Depot or Lowes should have it. You have to buy a whole roll but its only a few bucks.

It's called gutter guard. Works great for what you want.

I use the plastic grid that ladies use to make latch-hook rugs. This grid is sold at craft stores such as "Ben Franklin" and "Michaels".
