Feeding question

Hi, I was wondering if I should stop my wave maker powerheads and filters when feeding my reef aquarium. I have no purchased coral in yet just some HH cup coarl as well as some inverts, serpent star, snails and an urchin and one Diamond Goby. What is the general rule for feeding? I know some corals will need to be target fed and some are filter feeders but it seems that alot of my food is being sucked up in the filter too quickly.

I am new to the reef hobby but was along time 55gal fresh water aquarium keeper. Thanks in advance.

Dave
