AquaC EV Series - Airflow question

hi everybody, i have an AquaC EV-240 skimmer w/ JG fitting for ozone or ca reactor... at this time i don't use this port for anything so i have it plugged. i installed a diy air muffler to the air valve so to quiet down the sucking noise. my question is that the book says this skimmer works best with air valve open all of the way, but i have a mildly restrictive air muffler....would it be a good idea to allow the ozone port to pull in air as to allow the most amount of air in????
