where to position thermostat probe ?

i know. yet another silly question from a newb. but i wasnt sure weather the temp probe should go in the sump. or the display tank. as i asume some heat is lost between the two in the pipes.

many thanx

Most people put it in their sump. I don't have a sump, but I put it in the return section of my HOB Skimmer. I keep it out of the display tank, as I think it looks ugly.

Mines a small digital one down the back corner, can't really see it cause the top canopy covers just enough so i leave it on the display tank.

I put it in the drain side of the sump, so the tank lights and heater do not directly influence it.

Mine is in the sump. In a high flow area, but it is like 3"x .5" If it were tiny I may put it in the display.

mines in the back corner of my tank about half way down in tank. Its a small probe leading to a digital gauge, its black so you cant really see it. Guess Iam more worried about the display temp not the sump

I tie mine around a small rubble and drop in the overflow box. I have a standpipe.

I have mine strapped to the standpipe in one of the overflows. You cant see it and it cant fall out.
