HOB AquaFuge with skimmer - place for media and micron sock?

Hi, just received the analog of large (24"L) AquaFuge with protein skimmer from eBay, close to PS model.

Trying to use it most effectively on 20gL tank for filter feeders, have questions:
1. Is it possible to place somewhere (before or right after protein skimmer) the micron sock or pad, changed daily?
2. Where better to place the phosphate removing media and carbon?

Any modifications, that should be done before the fuge is connected to the tank?

I'm planning to use it more as a flat sump, but with some chaeto too.

Thanks.
