How often does your kalk mixing pump run on your reactor?
Well... not the best way to word it but the best I could come up with.
I was wondering how you guys have your kalk reactors setup as far as how often the pump comes on? I've heard some people do it for like 1 minute every two hours or so. Seems like to me that may be a bit much, but perhaps not. What do you guys think? Thanks! Brandon

You can get a good rough estimate what is needed by just measuring the ph. Stir just long enough to cloud the bottom half of the reactor well below the outlet.

I fear that may be impossible as someone put a mag 4 on this beast!
I may try putting something smaller on it... it tends to stay pretty cloudy for a while after running. I'm just not sure how much I want to muck with it if its working ok. I think 1 minute every two hours is probably going to be too much. I'll probably do 1 minute every 5 or 6 hours. Thanks for the replies! Brandon

i stir my reactor in the evening just before the lights go out and in the middle of the night around 3am. it seems to help with pH fluctuations. now only about .1 pH during the whole day.

NeveSSL, can you tell me what reactor you have. I have had a GEO and it has a small Maxijet that does not stir to much so I have to run it every hour for 10 mins to maintain pH. I am thinking of buying another one with a better pump.
Thanks |

Its a homemade acrylic reactor with a mag 4 on it. No problem mixing here!
I ended up setting it for every 3 hours. Seems to work great. And the way this one is designed I actually don't get much solid kalk at the top even while mixing... its interesting. Brandon

Stir Cycle
I have my stir cycle set for 2 minutes every 6 hours. (12,6,12,6) I dose the effluent in small volumes 150 times a day with a liter meter. Sometimes I set the dosing pump a little higher before lights out to dose more during that cycle.
Good thread! Mike |
