OMG total BrainFart on Skimmer

I'm having a day right now.

My brain is on shutdown and I don't know why.

I have a question regarding plumbing a skimmer - does the riser tube (for my Octo NW-150) stay open or do you connect PVC to it and have it bypass into the/a fuge?

Like I said, I'm having a day... lol

Man oh man... it's that bad??

It's ok to say -- yes, yes it is. I realize now that I was an idiot. Momentary brain stoppage is what I'm going to blame it on.

Now for the other question... the Air tube for the inlet broke and I used a swizzle stick (small straw) to allow air to enter, however, upon turning the skimmer on I get a massive amount of micro bubbles. Could it be extra air getting into the skimmer? Could it be too much air passing out of the skimmer body and into the return section?
