pulsing xenia frag

ive had this frag for about 3-4 weeks and i see little branches are growing off of the bigger ones.. i have the frag right next to a piece of LR. how long until it starts growing on the rock? and i highly doubt its going to melt.

i cant wait for it to spread so i can give some to my brother(55g)!!!

please let me know what you guys think. THANKS!

It wont take long (days) but be aware that once it starts growing on your rock work it is nearly impossible to stop.

I agree with Dubbin1 this stuff grows like a wild fire. I started with a little branch, and it seems like once a week i have to give some away. It will start growing fast when you least expect it. Just move it close to another rock, could be one day could be two days.

Put some saltwater and xenia in a blender. Dump blended concoction into the tank. You will have xenia in every crevase of the tank, including the skimmer!!

Well. It seems that easy at least.

i have some and yes it grows quick but people make it sound like its uncontrollable, no coral grows that fast, i mean how often are you checking on your reef that you can't keep up with it? plus if it grows on a rock all you have to do is peel it off, if you don't want to take the time to peel it you can just razor it off.

MMMM xenia daquiri's! Man, that blender is going to reek. xenia smells something awful! I'll never put that vile weed in a tank again. It completely over ran my last tank.

nothing smells as bad as xenia when you take it out of the water.

How about a dead anemone or a colt coral. Colt corals are much worst than xenia imo spreading wise. They will bud off and reattach within hrs.

I love this stuff coun't controll it at the time, sold a bunch, gave away, saturated the market and I had to flush a bunch. Now it's taking over the 125, I love the stuff (kind of)

there just filter feeders? i heard u can feed them phytoplankton, would that be ok?

and do u think my clown fish will host in them?

Very nice I believe they absorb nutrients from the water and also they love light I have never tried to spot feed it or added anything to the tank beside kalk. I used couple of times phytoplankton but it was more for my clams, I just use fish food now, xenia still going strong not as bad as the 55. Also about a year ago I had a die off of about 90% of it it was due to low salinity, that was they only way to kill off some xenia. I even cycled the 125 with some xenia and managed to survied.

It works with shrooms also. You don't want to completely liquefy it, just pulse it a few times.

if you put xenia in your tank just be ready to prune it when its starts getting out of control, i sell the frags back to lfs for other corals or fish food. good luck
