Pearl Algae Removal

This particular reef tank has been up and running for 14 months now with out one problem. In the matter of a few weeks pearl algae has just exploded. How do I get rid of it ?

I am sure this has been addressed before but as usual the search function is on overload.

Thanks for any help.

You have much more experience than I do, but to me it looks like bubble algae.

I've never heard of Pearl algae. Looks like I have some cool research to do on the net.

You can carefully pick it off the rocks being sure not to pop any of them. Or they say Mitrhrax crabs eat it.

That pic sure looks like bubble or Valonia algae. As mentioned, carefully picking it out and/or some emerald (mithrax) crab is the way to go.

Angry Bad Stuff

This stuff is nasty with a capital 'N'. Be very careful how you remove it, if you burst the bubbles it will spread.
The crab option is good but some people dont like crabs .

Why is everyone so worried about not popping the bubbles when they remove it? Do you think the emerald crab eats them whole? He will pop the bubble in order to eat it. Manual removal is the most effective way IMO.
