Angry HOB Skimmers

I am in desperate need of a good HOB skimmer.

I don't have a sump on my 30g Mantis tank, and the skimmer I've got on there now is an absolute piece. It's a Typhoon Hang-On, and let me tell ya...

It managed to overflow randomly, and I came home to 15g of saltwater on the floor.

I'm looking at one of these new Fission Power Skimmers that are out now.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Current Tank Info: 120g Reef Tank, 60g Cube Mantis/Reef Tank, Want more info, ask me.

Either a Bermuda Rogue or Aqua C remora. Both are good, the bermuda being better.

For a 30g i'd go with an octo hot. The rogue is way to big and i'd rather do water changes then stick a remora on it.

I wasn't a huge fan of the typhoon until i modded it to a NW and made a collection cup for it so it would be overflow proof.

I'm also looking at one of the Octo's... how does the surface skimmer that comes with them work? It looks like it'd be too low in the water to really do anything, or would the intake have to be shortened?

The Typhoon has worked okay up until this overflow, but I hate having to stick my hand in the tank with my 6" peacock to adjust the water level. She grabbed my hand one day when I wasn't paying attention... luckily she didn't smash at me.

Agreed, as for the surface skimming box you will have to hack saw that inlet tube the the correct length. In order to use the surface skimming box. Which isn't a problem, or you could diy your own surface skimming box if you don't want to chop it. I agree with you the typoon is a let down. I had it for a while and man after it flooded on me I was never comfortable leaving the house anymore with that thing on my tank. Go for the octo, its a great skimmer for a great price. No need to mod it and it works great out of the box.
