dry live rock
any place online I could buy dry live rock ready to be put into DT?
I'm starting a new aquarium. That has nothing in it really, beside the fuge, that has some macro algae and a piece of cured live rock, and live sand. It has been running for about two weeks and is pretty well cycled by now with good colonization of bacteria in the DT. Substrate is nice and sticky. |

dry live rock is an oxymoron--if its been dried out the bacteria are dead so the rock isn't live.
Most of the LFS stores sell it in a box as base rock If you use base rock then it is going to have to cycle for bacteria---don't get fooled into a false security level here--it could take up to three months. So basically right now your tank can only hold the biomass of the amount of bacteria on that one piece of live rock that you stated has cycled.

I used Dead base rock added about 30 lbs of uncured rock,
140LBs live sand , and ran it dark for 4 weeks. It is finished cycling and if you pick up a piece of that bleached rock it smells like cured live rock. Lights are on and algae is starting to grow. will introduce clean up crew next week.
