Skimming 1000 Gallons
Hey All,
I'm considering a new setup that would run appx. 1000g total water... not the display only, but including sump, frag tank, refugium etc.. What skimmer[s] would you recommend for such a tank for best overall VALUE... Cost to effectiveness? Best bang for the buck type deal... TIA

Contact Spazz here on RC and consider his Volcanos. Check out last month's TOTM for a peek at one.

Tom,
Does Spazz manufacture the Volcano Skimmer? I am just curious how one would find acrylic tubing in such large diameters, if that is even used, and how the cone is made? by mold injection, casting? Emaculant conception?

It would be a fun project. IMO you need around 6000lph air for that size a tank so i'd take an 18" diameter by 24" tall with a 8-10" diameter neck that is 6" tall. I'd throw 6 sicce 2500's on there. Should give you around 7000lph at 120w. Use a 12" bubble plate......uhhhhhhh sounds awesome!

6000LPH on 1000g would be overkill...Sounds like a fun project though :-) You could efficiently skim that system with half that if the skimmer was built properly.
