PVC overflow question
I have a 75g DT with a 30g thats going to be a sump. I want to use the PVC as a type of coast to coast overflow that has been discussed here before. I like the low profiile of it and the (apparent) ease of construction. My question is:
What size of pipe should I use for the overflow and what size bulkheads? I was originally going to do this on a 37g and use 1", but found a great deal on the new 75 and wanted to concentrate on that instead. |

I'm building them for my 125, and have done some research... the consensus is that 2x 1" is good for ~1,500gph (and that's what I'm doing) I think you'd be safe with a 1x 1", but there are lots of advantages to running 2 of them. I'm not exactly sure what size you would use for that. Of course a lot of it depends on your other equipment/stocking list/etc.
There are people a lot more knowledgeable than I am about this, but I know these threads move fast so I figured I'd try to contribute something! Good luck. |

ok, thanks
![]() I have the hole saw to be able to cut the holes for 1" bulkheads already so I will probably just start there. I just wasnt sure if it would be better to go to like a 1.5" overflow and hten reduce it down to 1" through the 2 bulkheads or do like 1.5" bulkheads. I am beginning to think that the 2 1" bulkheads with 1" overflow will work well enough though. I can always change it I guess if I need to, and it would be easier to go larger rather than smaller I would think. Thanks for the bump though |
