advice wanted: aggressive clownfish

I have a maroon clownfish (2 1/2 - 3") who used to be picked on by a 5" lunar wrasse. It was so bad (his fins were really beat up), that I ended up having to bring the wrasse back to my lfs. However, now my clownfish recovered and is attacking my foxface (who is about 5"). He is nipping at the foxface to the point where the foxface is constantly hiding. Any suggestions or comments on what I should do?

Nikolaus,

I had the same problem with the same size clown. She wouldn't stop beating up eveybody. I was actually going to take her to the LFS bu decided to keep her. I just got back from picking up her new tank as a matter of fact.

I agree, if you got an anemone the agressiveness will be limited to around the anemone its hosting leaving a lot of room for the others. It can also depend on who is in the tank first, ie the fox face was added after the maroon and the maroon tends to dominate vs. the maroon being added to an esatblished community that the fox face is already a part of.

How much LR?
If its a new addition then you may need to turn all lights out first day and main lights an extra day or two to help.

they have both been in the tank for awhile. I don't have any LR. right now I only have a few fish in the tank. I think the anemone idea might work, as right now the clownfish is chasing the foxface all over the tank...getting an anemone might make the clownfish stay close to it.

Ok now this may sound funny but its actually true. You don't need to buy a real anemone if u purchase one of the fake ones that are plastic it will think its real. Someone on another forum has a plastic one in their 120gal and the maroon hosts it as if it were the real thing!
