if your in the hobby for the long haul... dont buy cheap anything.... you will just end up replacing it... look into deltec, H&S, euroreef, and other high end manufacters. it will be more money now, but it will save you from replacing it later.

Not the best on the market, you are better of getting the coralife super skimmer 125 for a little more money and it works good for a cheap costing skimmer!

Like mentioned above, the SeaClone won't get any love around here.

You can mod it a couple of different ways to improve production, but in the end, you'll still look to buy another, better skimmer.

What else is in the tank, or is it stocked yet?

Are you looking for a hang on skimmer or are you going to set up a sump in future for on the tank?

I agree. I had one at first and it didn't take me long to figure out it was junk.

Octopuss skimmer I hear are VERY GOOD! But I can't say for sure since I have never owned one. I do own a CSS 125 on my 30 and it's not a bad skimmer for the price.

I agree with everyone else--if you can go for the most effecient with the best track record

I own a 150 and evryone here is right. They do suck, but since i did the mods on mine and placed it in the sumpwhere the pump is directly connected to the skimmer, it work alot better, I'm able to get longer contact times and slower flow.

But as they all said DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! but if you insist on a 150 send me a cashiers check for 100 bucks and i'll send you mine! hahahahaha just kidding!

Check out the Euro-Reef RS80. on drsfostersmith.com
Good Luck in your search.

buy a octopus skimmer

theres the nw 200 or the 150 that would do well on a tank your size.

the nw 200 can be had brand new shipped for under $190

you wont find a better skimmer or really a bad review about them.

http://www.octopusskimmer.com/

seems they have went up in price since the last time i looked.

they must have been on sale through the holidays.

but even at this price i dont think youll find anyone to argue with me that this skimmer is the best skimmer at its price, and is comparable
to some at a much higher price.

your best bet would be to use aquacave, a reef central sponser. go to their forum here and leave a message asking what deals he can give you to match octopus.coms offer.

i got a really good deal from them, they gave me 5% reef central discount , a price match and free shipping. although there is a heavy item shipping cost of 16 dollars added that cant be avoided.

when you get the skimmer you will know why, the thing is huge and well packaged.
oh and i think it would be hard for any reef central sponser to equal aquacaves shipping speed. they kick butt. they have the best customer service you could ask for also. they back their stuff up.

http://www.aquacave.com/

good luck.

oh thansk so much!.... which one would you suggest for a 55? also my tank is in the living room and this goes in the sump (I think).... would it fit under my tank? ...... I was also thinking of doing a basement sump, but I'm not sure how complicated that is(if I did that I'd have all the room in the world)

I'd look into AquaC skimmers as well. Spray injection technology is where I think the hobbyist should spend their money IMO.

Reef Octopus EXT 120
Recirculating Needle Wheel
Protein Skimmer*

will work good for a 55 gal.
