What can I keep?
Ok so this is the light that I currently have.. what types of corals can I keep? I was told once before but I can't remember..
Oh and before ya'll say to ditch the light and upgrade.. I just upgraded to this so I won't be getting a new one any time soon.. this is what I could afford at the moment. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...t~ES53403.html

You may get away with a few LPS or SPS placed high but softies no problem.

Based on your profile, I'm guessing your tank is 29gal.
I would suggest low - medium light corals. Placement is important. |

I was told in the past that I wouldn't be able to keep SPS or maybe it was LPS.. or does it really just depend on the particular species?

Yes, it depends on the species, som corals need more/less light than others. Gargonia do well in low light.
Do some research before you buy. |

Growth , color , and reprodution will all be affected by the lighting but i mixed tank would work but would take patiants and time. Add 1 coral at a time and find a good spot he likes. I move around and look for an area the coral likes , amount of flow and light. Then go to the next one.
LPS and SPS coral in these conditions would require good water readings from nitrate and calcium for better results. |

Here are two good websites for information. I believe your lighting would be considered low to moderate, but there is a lot that you can keep. The first site has suggestions for beginner corals. The second site has lots of information about the needs and care of coral. I have both of these in "my favorites" and refer to them often.

I'd say steer clear of green star, buttons, and discosoma: they multiply and spread maybe more than you'd want...but then maybe wild spread is what you want.
I keep stony. That's not impossible for you. You could keep some lps stony: candycane and the euphyllias, frogspawn, torch, hammer. The digi monti and monti cap---maybe: they're sps, all fast-growing. Bubble coral, no problem---has a 6" reach so watch positioning. Ditto torch. IF you decide to go stony, use a lidded automatic topoff [ATO] and stir kalk into it. It will supply the calcium these stony corals need.
