The Deltec is far better than the cheap octopus. The octopus skimmers skim ok for a few months then they dont skim very well.

Long term you will be far better off with a Deltec skimmer.

The correct answer is the DAS ex-1.

It is a licensed copy of the deltec APF600 and can be brought for under $300.

AFAIK, it's not the same as an APF600. Its like an AP600 with an APF600 pump. It is a very good deal.

I thought the only difference between the ex-1 and apf600 was the apf600 has a little bigger collection cup. Other than that they are pretty much the same skimmer. What am I missing?

deltec apf600
Dimensions: Length: 11" Width: 8.5" Height: 23.5"
Cylinder: 5"
LPH: 500

DAS ex-1
Skimmer dimensions: 15.4"x7.1"x23.4"
Mixing tube diameter: 5"
LPH: 500

Deltec ap600
Dimensions: Length: 11" Width: 8.5" Height: 22.75"
Cylinder: 5"
LPH" 480

The APF has a much bigger cup, and more importantly, a larger diameter neck to handle the extra air from the larger pump. Deltec claims an AB2001 is too big for the AP600 body.

Here is a pic of an AP600, APF600, and AP701.

DAS EX1:

lol, where do you get that information? I have used octopus skimmers since they first came out and it skims just as well now as it did when I got it.

That is hilarious that you say that.

Why are you even asking this here? 100 Deltec fan boys will come out of the wood work and cut on the Octopus skimmer because they think whatever they bought must be the best. Even though they don't really know which is the best.

I am willing to bet that there isn't a single person that has replied so far that has even seen an ext ps150 in real life, let alone used one...

You could get an Octopus Ext PRO 250, for the same price as that Deltec, when it comes out. LOL

Uses a Laguna Needle wheel pump

That thread doesn't have the same skimmers talked about here, it has an old octopus skimmer for 1. Also, there wasn't a single person that replied that had used that octopus skimmer before.

I ran an Octo 150, mesh modded, against a Deltec AP 600, the Deltec is a much better skimmer IMO.

I cant go with a DAS EX-1 because I only have 24" in height to work with.

It's 23.4" so I bet it would be too tight to remove the collection cup.

The needle wheel, venturi, and pumps are completely changed on the internals of the pump. I have owned the older model and newer EXT model and they are 100% different.

I personally think you should maybe wait for one of these if you can wait till the end of March and if money is no object. I don't think they are too tall but I could be wrong.

Nikonosis. you have any experience with the ext 250? I am looking for a new skimmer for my 120 sps tank. I was looking at the Euroreef RC-135 or the RS-180. any suggestions. I would consider both the ext-150 and the ext-200. or any other suggestions. dont mean to hijack your thread.

No experience with it yet but I have been following several threads where people have been beta testing it. It looks extremely promising.
