I have a 30 gallon tank and it came with a test kit that tests for nitrates, ammonia; ph; akalinity; it has the powder packets to add to the test tube ; is there anything that is better, easier without breaking the bank??

The test kit you have is Fastest. I have used them with no problem. I find them to a good kit if you don't mind the powder bag. I think there better than API. Although I use API for ease. The color indicator is easier to read on the fastest kit.
