Cyno?

Sorry I do not have a pic because I am at work but I am getting a bright red color to some of my rock. It is on some of the lace rock. It is not affecting my live rock. The lace rock has been in since the beginning along with the live rock. (since Thanksgiving 07") when I started the tank. The red patches are not bubbling like cyno. It is in a decent flow area and is not on the sand at all. I have an hard time beleving it is cyno but I cant imagine what else would be this red. It is not a sponge at all either. It doesnt blow off with a turkey baster.

Cyano is a delicate film of slime that would blow off in pieces from a direct blast with a turkey baster so it doesn't sound like cyanobacteria.

You're going to have to post a clear photo when you get home for any real ID help outside of guesswork.

Look wise... one can mix corraline algea up with cyano bacteria on the rocks. I did...... I thought I had a bad case of the cyano but in fact it was red coralline algea.

One other quick question. IF it is cyno wouldnt it be in the sand bed as well? Doesnt it start there?

No cyane can start anywhere. You cant miss cyano, like said above it will easilt blow off with water etc. If it's not blowing off, its most likely coralline.

It can be on the sand but like stated above it starts where ever it wants to.
