Feeding Habits and ammounts
I am curious from the rest of you. How often do you feed your fish?
And what kind of fish do you have? I have been told by 2 different LFS "experts" 2 completely different things. One says to feed they twice a day at least. The other tells me to feed a every other day! I dont know who do believe but I am curious what you do and what your opinion is on the subject? How often? How much? Here is what I have so I am very curious about people who have similar fish. 1 - 4" Sailfin Tang 1 - 1.25" True Perc Clown 2 - 2.5" Green Chromis 1 - 2" Banggai Cardinalfish 1 - 3" Lyretail Anthias (This guy is new tonight, and the main reason I am curious about this thread) thanks a ton!!

Any coral as some need feeding also?
Anyway its good to feed a mix and more then once a day. You can feed 5 times a day if you want but if you did then only what they can eat in 1 minute. I feed 4 or 5 times a week in the morning flake or pellet then frozen at night mixing it up with 3 or 4 differant kinds and what they can eat in 2 or 3 min and clip some nori a few times a week . A good mixed diet is best for there health and will cover most of there diet needs. Feeding to much means they dont help with algea control and not enough may leave them fighting amongest each other just cause. In the ocean , where by the way most if not all your fish came from , they tend to eat or pic all day. |

It really comes down to what you have in the tank. There's no said number of times, or how much. It also has to do with your tank size, as you don't want to have much waste. You'll want a good amount of variety as well, so as to keep the fish interested in the foods.
For your tank, I would feed a mixture of Mysis, Krill, Scallops, Nori, Cyclopeeze, etc. As far as how much, just feed enough so that its gone within 5 minutes. Start with around one 1/2" cubed size amount of food, and go from there.

I have 7 -4"-5" tangs (sailfin, hippo,purple,4-yellow)
7 small damsels 2 bangaii 2 ocelaris clown 1 orange pearly scale butterfly 1 anthias 1 algae blennie 1 mandarin I feed 2 -1" x 8" strips of nori at lunch time only the 7 tangs eat it at night I feed a few pinches of pellets followed by 2 cubes of frozen mysis, and 1 cube of frozen blood worms. this seems to be good for my tank, the fish are healthy, and my tank can handle the bio-load the nitrate/nitrite/ammonia stay at 0 I think it's just trial and error. my tangs used to pick on each other and have nicks in their fins until I added that lunch time feeding of nori, after that they rarely have any nicks good luck |

So far I have been feeding whats in the tank (minus the Lyretail Anthias because I just added him tonight) 1 cube of a meaty food (I rotate between Mysis shrimp, Spinulina Brine Shrimp, and Marine Cuisine), and then I add in some flake food with it too. I use 2 different types of flake food and I rotate that as well. I do this once every other day.
Then every once in a while I add in a small piece of dried seaweed. Does that sound like enough for the fish I have in there? How do you reccomend I feed this Lyretail? Will that be often enough? I have read that they need to be fed 4 times a day! That seems like a bit much to me. Is it?

Does anyone else have a Lyretail Anthias? If so what is your feeding schedule for it?

We feed every 2 to 3 days(mostly 2) and have had this schedule for about 4 years. Maroon, Flame, Lawnmower, Coral Beauty are all 5 plus years old. Rotate between frozen, flakes, and live foods.
