Are flake metals common in salt mix?
I just mixed up some new salt and saw some metal flakes in the bottom of the bucket. I used a magnet and it picked them up. I have seen this before in different salts. Is this common?

I have never seen nor heard of that before, but I'll tell you what I would do. I'd call the store you purchased it from and calmly and respectfully explain what you found and ask to return it with your receipt if you have one. Even if you don't, I'd return it. I would also contact customer service of the manufacturer of the salt. On second thought, I'd call them first and report this. Hopefully there's a lot number on the bag or bucket of the salt you purchased that you can give them. Who knows how many more buckets are out there and the potential damage a bad lot of salt can do. Report it, help yourself and others in doing so.
Who knows how minute the flakes are or whether or not it has leached into the salt. Even if they say it's safe, I'd still return it. There's no need to chance it in your tank. Mucho
