Giesemann 14.5K & T5 Aquablues
I'm just about ready to buy some new bulbs for my light fixture. How do you think the Giesemann 14.5K would look supplemented with a pair of ATI or Giesemann Aquablue T5's?
I've got a well used 14K Phoenix bulb in there right now. I'm really looking for something that's maybe just a bit less blue, or at least gives the red and greens a little more than what I've seen out of the Phoenix so far. From my RC browsing, it seems like the Giesemann is more of a 10K (maybe 12K) than a 14K. From looking over the spectral plots, it's obvious that the Giesemann lacks the huge blue spike that's obvious in the Phoenix. So do you think this MH/T5 combo will work ... ?

This is what my 180 Gal. looks like with three 14.5 K's and two T-5, 54W Giesemann PowerChrome pure atinics.

I just noticed that that pic was taken with the center MH as a 20K Giesemann but the outer two are 14.5Ks.
I can take a resent pic if you want to see all 14.5k's. Quote:

Thanks for the pictures. Your tank looks great.
I'd actually like to see your tank with the 14.5K's with and without the actinics (if that's not asking too much). I don't exactly love the "actinic only" look a lot of people use for their dusk/dawn. That's probably the main reason I'm looking to avoid using actinic T5's and putting in some Aquablues instead ...

I dont think youll get much blue with the 14.5's and Aquablues. I mean it may be a great look for you but if you are looking for a little blue then it may not be enough with the aquablues.
You may like the fiji purples for dusk dawn better than the pure actinics. They are a purple bulb but a little whiter and a little bit of a redder purple than a blue purple. I really like them for coloring up halides that already have a blue tint. The red/purple is a nice complement where sometimes the super actinic can add a little bit too much to the blue from the halide. I like them in combination with a super actinic, the SA in the back and Fiji in front. They look great with the Iwasaki 50000K and the Reeflux 12000K. Just put in a pair of Ushio 20000K's and they look good with the Fiji's as well. Those all are a bit bluer than the Giesemann but they could be worth a try with the Giesemanns if you dont favor the SA's as supplements because of a too dark/purply dusk/dawn. The Fiji's do lighten that up a bit and add maybe just a bit of warmth. |
