Pump Heat
Is it normal for the return pump to give off a good amount of heat. I have a little giant submersible pump that is rated at 1200 GPH. I am finish my stand and had the pump hooked up cycling my sump because i filled it with live sand and rock. I felt it after about 6 hours and the water was about 90 degrees. I have a chiller and that is not a problem when i have the tank completely hooked up. I was wondering if this is normal, is it just little giant pump? Let me know what you guys think, or links to more literature-Rick

When a pump runs it creates as much heat as a heater of the same wattage. So if your return is 100 watts it is just like having a 100 watt heater on all the time.
