Just Placed Rock In Tank Critters Galore
Wow, that's all I can say. This LFS 7.9 miles from me has some of the most amazing rock I have seen...
I grabbed 55 pounds of it Yesterday and it's screaming with all sorts of:
The list goes on. We lost power last night and I shined the flash light on the tank and I couldn't believe the amount of critters that were coming out of the rocks.... I'll add to the list as I discover!!! Can't wait to add pictures. Anyone have suggestions on how to shrink down photos? Photoshop only gets them to 100kb... Does anyone know what to use to plug a JG Fitting? |

How long has your tank been established? If it hasn't cycled yet and you want to keep even half that stuff you will probably need to do water changes several times a week.
If your tank is cycled already, you still are adding quite a load so watching the parameters will be paramount if you want to keep everything. Definitely get rid of the Aiptasia! Enjoy watching all the news stuff!!! We just discovered a baby snail after our rock has been in the tank about two months! Discovery is so much fun (for the most part) |

Had to get this rock it was this rock or rock for a dollar cheaper that barely had any coraline algae. That was the difference between the two LFS.
I will be doing frequent water changes, I've had the tank running for 2 weeks... Nitrite and Nitrate are up ammonia is tracely visible, ammonia was at about .10 All of the stuff listed was attached to the rocks. Grabbed 55 pounds. Sand bed is up to 6 inches in some spots. Average around 4 inches. |

Should I really get rid of them all (Aiptasia)?
There's like 15 of them. |

Ya.....kill that aiptasia..Or your tank will become a aiptasia tank.
Man.......I never get that lucky, All I ever get on my rock is just more rock......Plus, if there is anything attached to the rock & the LFS can see it.........you pay for it. But thats here in the Chicago area. Also......in your photoshop there should be a resize tab.....If your taking the pics with a regular digital camera, you will need to cut the size of the pic in half....in most cases the size will be around 1050 or so.....cut that to about 400 / 500. It will be a good size for us to see....... Look here..

Do some research on aiptasia and you will see that, without a doubt, will need to get rid of it. Real nasty stuff.
I don't see anything else on the list to be aware of but you should be on the lookout for mantis shrimp and, perhaps, some flatworms and Majano anemones. Look these up in google and you will get pictures of what these things look like so you can be alert to them. I agree with Newfish though, the stuff I bought was very barren. Only good thing is that it was precured so I didn't even barely have a cycle when I started up my tank. I am ordering from a place called Aquarium Arts that has a reputation for 'Fully Cured' live rock. In fact, after they cure it the rock sits in their holding tank for another 2 months so it becomes seeded with sponges, algae and many invertabrates. It'll be interesting to see what this stuff looks like. At $5 per pound, I had to try it! |

Wow these are no good, I am going to have to put the gloves on and pull these suckers off the best I can. Some big tweezers would be nice.
Maybe small salad tongs? I believe I have majano as well. |

This articles suggest squirting lemon juice...
The good news is that after some experimentation we discovered a simple, non-intrusive (except for the aiptasia) way to quickly get rid of an unwanted aiptasia anemone population in a reef tank. Inject them with lemon juice! This procedure requires only 2 items and a few minutes of your time. You'll no doubt be just as surprised as we were at how fast, effective, and safe this removal method is. See the results by looking at our aiptasia on and around feather duster and zoanthid stone infested with aiptasia BEFORE and AFTER injection comparison photos for yourself, then try it! |

Avgou - please be sure to NOT use tweezers or tongs. They are also called glass anemones. If they break into pieces, each piece becomes a potential anemone. These guys are nasty!

I just read that...yikes. Looks like Lemon juice sparingly over a few days will be the first attempt...
Time for bed, have to wait till after work tomorrow to do the water change and 1st attempt at removal of the Aiptasia. Tomorrow will be 48 hours since it was place in the tank. Plenty of time right? I have to get a syringe, does cvs carry them or rite aid? |

Bought Joe's Juice from the local LFS where I got the rock. This stuff works great. I'll have to see tomorrow which one's escaped, I pretty much nailed them all even the big ones. I found a couple stragglers that will get their's tomorrow.
The big rock in my tank I just noticed has tons of tiny, tiny clusters of pink feather dusters, there's got to be a hundred of them. That's what I get for turning a rock a around to kill Aiptasia. There are these other anemones that aren't majano but they look like they are in the rock almost making a tube on a hole in the rock and they are clear. What are these and are they bad? Still trying to load pics. |

Check out my member photos I managed to put a couple up. Unfortunately they are really, really small. Man I gotta transfer more photos. This just doesn't do it justice.
The reds and oranges are amazing. Killed that Aiptasia today... Here is a crappy pic from my phone. I have a cannon digital elph that's a few years old and can't take a damn photo with no flash...it comes out way to blurry. I have some video and some video photo shots I will put up tomorrow. Time for bed. Avgou http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/...ctinics_RC.jpg http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/...Fanworm_RC.jpg http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/...hoto_01_RC.jpg |

sounds like good rock! is the store in Feeding Hills? there's a place there I've been to that was probably one of the best shops I've seen, save for one I found here in FL. They had really nice rock when I was there last time. You seem to already be taking care of the aiptasia, so I just wanted to see if that store is where you found this rock.
