Cool reef ready tank

I was reading somewhere that said a reef ready tank with small holes in it wont get the flow you need for a reef tank. I have a 3/4 and a 1" hole. should i use them both as overflows and build a return loop header above my tank

you would be fine using the 1" as a drain and the 3/4 has a return. you should add more flow by using a closed loop system or power heads. you dont want that much more going through your sump or it will be a noisey bubbley nightmare

Im not sure I follow. If I use a closed loop doesn't that go through the sump also. I may need a piping diagram
