bubble coral help

my bubble coral has not been expanding properly since I bought it 2 months ago, it has also been expelling zoos especially at the areas where it is retracted. Any idea what is going on ? The retracted areas seems to be receding from the skeleton.

water parameters

nitrates 15
calcium 500
alkalinity 8
ph 8.2
temp 80

Your params look ok. You may want to do a water changes to get those nitrates down (and figure out how to keep them down, but that's a different issue). How is the coral sitting in flow/lighting as compared to where you bought it? Did it show any signs of expelling zoos before your bought it?

the lighting there looks light, with low flow. The coral here is getting some moderate flow, no where better to place it.

I have a bubble coral.

Recently I changed powerheads from Seio820s to Korlias 3, and I got the flow wrong. Boy did my bubble not like it. It started to close up, then recede from where the flow was coming from.

So after I changed the powerhead postions, its all happy again and fully open.

IME, they like low flow, and also fed at least once a week. I feed mine a whole cockle once a week.

I had this same problem with my green bubble coral. For some reason mine liked to have high alkalinity. When I purchased a Ca rx my Alk rose between 9 - 10dkH. My bubble coral has never looked better.

I agree with the above poster you need to eliminate those nitrates as well. Refugium or RDSB seem to be the best ways to reduce nitrates.
