Question closed loop? what?

hi there,

as ive floated around these forums and different articles ive heard the term closed loop used here and there. i frankly have no idea what it is or what it does sooo could sum1 please explain to me what it is and what purpose it serves? .

The simplest way I can describe it is a series of intakes and a series of return flow nozzles connected by a pump. Most have 4 of each, all 4 intakes meet up in one tube that is connected to a pump. The water then returns from that pump via the return nozzles, again most of the time split into 4. It's called closed loop because the water never goes through any filtration stages just from the tank to the pump and back to the tank.

so it is used to agitate the water to create flow? thank you eddie that was the kind of basic information i was looking for
