Any. Info on Surge Devices?
Hi am am still debating water movement in my 1200 gallon display. I am really interested in alternative methods other than closed loop systems. 8-12 2in. holes drilled in the bottom of my tank would drain the entire system quickly in event of bulkhead/plumbing failure. Can anyone provide me with info on surge devices as I have plenty of space in my fish room (30ft.x20ft.) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the 800g saint jude's aquarium in the large tank forum. That tank has a surge device on it.

I really like the surge device they have setup. The only problem is that I am looking for a sort of "how-to" guide to setting one up as well as the pros and cons of utilizing one for water movement.

i have been to the waikiki aquarium and have seen this surge device in person:
Carlson Surge Device the great things i saw were, what does one expect, a great surge of water that gives the corals a big breath of fresh water/air. the down sides i noticed were bubbles...lots of them in the display as the surge went off. the other drawback was noise...a lot of it. hopefully, your display wont be in the chess clubs lounge, in a diamond cutters workshop or in a newborn's nursery!!!
