Double shipment...
Alright... I've got a sticky situation. I ordered the second stage of my clean up crew from an online vendor on Tues. They called back shortly after and said one of the items was out of stock and the shipment wouldn't go out till it was completely filled. I had requested the order be canceled so I could order through another vendor. I placed an order with another vendor yesterday giving them a day to report any problems. Well Long story short... I'm getting both shipments.
I have a 34gal red sea max tank with a few mods to it. Basically just stuff to increase flow and effectiveness of the skimmer. I only have a couple snails and a few tiny hermits in there. How much of the two shipments can I safely add now? Order 1: Pep shrimp Lettuce Nudi Nass snail x 6 Cleaner Shrimp Order 2: Cleaner Shrimp Pep Shrimp Lettuce Nudi Astraea snailx2 Cerith snail x3 Nass snail x4 Is it safe to add all this at one time? I'll probably have to do water changes pretty frequently if I do... wouldn't I? |

10 is too many Nass. snails for a 34g. Especially for a new tank.

well the snails won't be a problem, but you may have a few die off if there is not enough food, or if the hermits get a hold of them. I would be reluctant to have two cleaner shrimps in the tank because I'm pretty certain that they like to be alone, but I'm not 100% on that. The peppermint shrimp will just hang out together and they should be fine. And as long as there is enough food for the nudibranchs they should be fine, but keep an eye on them because you will want to remove them quickly if one dies. I would say you'd be fine adding them all at once because these animals will not make much waste, but I would do a 10% water change after about 5 days, or test your amm., nitrite, and nitrate to see if it will be necessary before hand. Did they bill you even though you cancelled the order?

Seems like a lot of overkill, but should work if there is enough food as stated. Do you have any fish friends around that would be interestedd in the extra stuff you do not really need?

I'm trying to get a hold of the rep that called me about the stock shortage. I'm sure I'll get some sort of compensation for it though. I don't know any one with any salt water tanks... but plenty of fresh water tanks floating around where I live. I might have to try to give them to the evil local store that wanted $13 a lb for live rock!

You will have no trouble. regular nassarius are small and 10 in that tank is not an issue unless your tank has no sand (barebottom). Cleaner shrimps will be OK too, I have always had more than one and they get along fine. The letuce nudis may need supplemental algae for which you can wrap a piece of nori to a small rock with a rubber band or use a clip to hold a piece near the bottom of the tank.

Thanks for the replies. I guess the worse thing I'm looking is doing water checks more frequently and extra water changes any time I need. A little extra work hasn't killed me yet...

The nassarius will come up and eat any leftovers. Drop in a pinch of Formula 1 pellets every now and then and they will be fine. I don't see any problems with the double shipment, but I would call to complain about not canceling your order.

haha just kidding. Make sure they didn't bill you for the shipment, I know cleaner shrimps aren't cheap so I imagine you spent a little bit of green for that order.
